A Tax Partner at Baptista Luz Advogados since Nov. 2021, his practice focuses on tax advisory and tax planning for M&A, private equity & venture capital, structuring inbound (foreign investments in Brazil) and outbound (Brazilian investments abroad) transactions, corporate reorganizations, international taxation and customs, due diligence, assessment of tax risks and contingencies, structuring and sitting on tax committees, estate/succession planning and strategic tax litigation (judicial and administrative). Also admitted to the New York State Bar Association, he has ample experience in advising foreign clients with investments, activities, or interests in Brazil.

Practicing tax law since 2004, he was head of tax at other first-rate law firms. He has additional experience in business and corporate law, capital markets, corporate finance, M&A and private equity/venture capital, having worked at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom (2010-2011). He was a Law Clerk for Justice Cezar Peluso at the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil (STF), where he was responsible for the Tax, Economic and Public Finance law areas (2005-2009).

Paulo holds an LL.M. in Taxation from Harvard Law School, an MBA in Finance and Controllership from the USP-ESALQ, an M. Phil. from UnB, an LL.B. from USP and a B.B.A. from FGV-Eaesp. He is also professor of Information Technology Law at FATEC Barueri since 2024 an invited graduate and post-graduate professor in the tax area, and has published extensively, including a book entitled “International Trade Subsidy Rules and Tax and Financial Export Incentives from limitations on fiscal sovereignty to development-inducing mechanisms.”

He was nominated by the Latin American Corporate Counsel Association with the distinction “LACCA Approved” (Tax – Latin America) in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, and as a “LACCA Thought Leader” in 2018, 2019 and 2020. An angel investor (Harvard Business School – HBS Alumni Angels of Brazil), he is a member of the Harvard Club of Brazil, in which he serves as a Fiscal Board member, elected for the 2021-2023 term.
